James Shaw is a unique international director working in the film and commercial world. A seeker of untold stories, James left college to travel the world. Arriving in China, he was inspired by the country’s tremendous appetite for change and sought to capture the amazing spirit of life he witnessed there. His videos eventually blossomed into a career directing story driven commercials and branded content that portrayed the lives and emotions of people in a realistic and powerful way.

To date his commercials and short films have been featured in Shots, Adweek, Adage and SHOOTonline. While in his Master’s program at USC, he produced a PSA against texting and driving that won the Young Directors Award at Cannes, a gold Addy and was shortlisted at the D&AD and AICP Show. His short film, ‘Toenail’ was a finalist in the HBO Visionaries competition. Toenail is now playing on HBO platforms and in film festivals around the world.

James has worked across multiple media platforms, focused on bringing people together through shared human stories and experiences. James presently resides in Los Angeles and Shanghai.
